After over half a century of teaching guitar I have a number of students who have stayed in my heart, and though three are gone now, I will always remember them with love.
Cecil P. was a District Attorney in Atlanta Georgia who was my longest running teaching relationship. I taught Cecil for 16 years.
I got Rosey a street gig in front of Blind Willies (828 North Highland Avenue, Atlanta Georgia, 30306) where he worked three days a week…for the rest of his life.
Rosey came to me at 66 years old with a bullet lodged in his back and said he wanted to spend the rest of his life playing the blues.
I taught Rosey at half price, because he was on SSI, and we were together 30 minutes a week, for 7 years.
I taught him to play Chicago Blues and slide guitar. I taught him to sing and I taught him to write 16 original Blues songs.
Rosey asked me to speak at his funeral, which I did, much to the chagrin of his family. But, Rosey knew I would tell the truth…and I did.
Rosey, at his happiest, in front of Blind Willies.
My oldest friend, for 35 years, Wayne Simmons. Wayne performed at Eddie’s Attic where the Indigo Girls were discovered.
Cliff Chew was my student and bass player for 14 years.
He was the easiest guy to get along with I have never met, and therefore... one of the best musicians I have ever known. We called him...Bad Dude
Jan Smith went onto teach Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys
