The Soul Man
The WROX radio station is one block from the famous 'Crossroads' in Clarksdale. WROX had the first black radio announcer in Mississippi, Early Wright known as "The Soul Man". The Soul Man told men a story in 1987:
Before Sam Phillips discovered Elvis in Memphis on July 18, 1953, a young truck driver, listening to two hours of blues and two hours of gospel music, hosted by the Soul Man, dropped by WROX by and asked to sing…That man was Elvis.
